Reporting to: Dispatch Manager / Supervisor
Job Purpose: To play a key role in a fast-paced warehouse operation, ensuring accurate and efficient order fulfilment across both retail and e-commerce channels. The role involves picking and processing orders using handheld devices and Excel-based systems, carrying out quality checks, and completing compliance documentation. The successful candidate will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, adopting a lean mindset and proactively identifying opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role requiring high energy, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining best-in-class warehouse standards.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate should fulfil the following criteria:
- Pick, pack, and process orders accurately using handheld scanning devices and warehouse systems (including Excel-based tools)
- Handle a wide range of order types, from full pallet movements to single-case e-commerce picking
- Load and unload trailers safely and efficiently using MHE (PPT, Counterbalance, Aisle Master)
- Conduct quality checks prior to dispatch to ensure product standards and customer requirements are met
- Complete all compliance and dispatch documentation accurately and on time
- Maintain accurate stock control through regular checks, stock movements, and system updates
- Support stock management activities including cycle counting and discrepancy investigation
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness across all warehouse areas at all times
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to meet daily operational targets
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement (lean) initiatives within the warehouse
- Adhere to all health & safety procedures and promote a safe working environment
Essential and Desirable Criteria
Knowledge
Essential
- Good understanding of warehouse operations and the importance of accuracy, efficiency, and safe working practices
- Basic to intermediate IT skills, with confidence using handheld devices, warehouse systems, and Microsoft applications
- Understanding of stock control, quality checks, and compliance documentation
- Ability to follow written procedures and complete records clearly and accurately
Desirable
- Previous experience using handheld scanning devices in a warehouse environment
- Experience of ERP/WMS systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Understanding of retail supply chain operations and multi-channel order fulfilment
- Awareness of lean principles and continuous improvement
Relevant Experience
Essential
- Previous experience working in a busy warehouse, dispatch, or order fulfilment environment
- Experience picking and processing orders accurately to deadline
- Experience using PPT/powered pallet truck equipment
- Experience working to operational targets, accuracy standards, and daily workload priorities
Desirable
- Experience within a retail supplier, distribution, logistics, or FMCG environment
- Experience handling orders across different channels (full pallet, case pick, e-commerce/smaller order fulfilment)
- Experience of stock management, stock counting, and stock movement control
- Experience using handheld scanning technology and warehouse systems
- Experience in a similar warehouse operative/dispatch role
- Experience operating Counterbalance forklift and/or Aisle Master equipment
