Mackle Petfoods is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy. In the last 12 months, we have made considerable reductions in the consumption of electricity per tonne of product produced by 20%. This 20% reduction achievement has been made through the inclusion of employees, appointing Energy Champions, educating employees on the need for Sustainability and the responsible use of resources, incentivising staff by setting SMART energy reduction targets, and rewarding them when the targets have been achieved.
We at Mackle Petfoods believe that staff at all levels should be included in our SMART Energy Reducing Targets. By appointing Energy Champions, we are empowering our valued employees. We have seen a change of culture within the business, in that employees are taking ownership and pride with their energy saving actions and a greater cohesion between shifts and departments increasing productivity, and ultimately reducing our consumption of electricity.
Water is integral to our process and to the local community. To limit the water demand in our local area, we have invested and upgraded the water cooling system, reducing our water consumption by 70% in the summer months.
Metal is a resource which can be infinitely recycled without loss of quality, making metal packaging a key contributor to the circular economy, which is why Mackle Petfoods will invest in a new canning production line, doubling the throughput from 300 cans per minute to 600 cans per minute. The installation of this new line is currently being carried out.
Our new Pouch Production Line has seen the addition of cat and dog pouches to our product range. By moving from 85g & 150g plastic trays to pouches, we have reduced the weight of packaging, meaning reduced packaging elements and less weight during transport.
Look out for what’s happening in the future at Mackle Petfoods (John Mackle (Moy) Ltd.!
